Julie D’Aubigny was a 17th-century bisexual French opera singer and fencing master who killed or wounded at least ten men in life-or-death duels, performed nightly shows on the biggest and most highly-respected opera stage in the world, and once took the Holy Orders just so that she could sneak into a convent and bang a nun. If nothing in that sentence at least marginally interests you, I have no idea why you’re visiting this website. (via Badass of the Week: Julie D’Aubigny, La Maupin) (thank you, Rachel!)

“The concept of portraying evil and then destroying it - I know this is considered mainstream, but I think it is rotten. This idea that whenever something evil happens someone particular can be blamed and punished for it, in life and in politics, is hopeless.”
—Hayao Miyazaki

One of my very favourite recurring themes in Miyazaki’s work - especially in Spirited Away - is how the grotesque and initially threatening reveals itself to be benign and even compassionate. It’s so beautiful, and a lot more meaningful than the typical good-evil/black-white dichotomy of other mythology.

“[Chris Hemsworth] is a big boy, and it’s all real. There’s no CGI. He eats that much chicken, he lifts all that weight, he kick-boxes, he’s a Muay Thai champion. I mean, to the point where Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Robert Downey Jr were reduced to just standing around and touching him.”

Good Omens BBC miniseries in 2013

Reporting directly from Neil Gaiman’s blogGood Omens, the fagnificent spawn of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, is being adapted for television by Terry Jones (Monty Python) and Gavin Scott (Small Soldiers). The producer will be Rod Brown, who already lead the BBC versions of Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather and The Colour of Magic. He did a great job capturing the fantastic and gritty ambientation of Discworld’s characters, and I am sure that this coming in 2013 BBC miniseries will be up to the fan base expectations.

A part of me wishes that when Persona is completely done, ATLUS will release another fighting game that features characters from ALL of the games.  While I love Persona 4, Persona 2 was the first Persona game I played and when I found out Persona and Persona 2 won’t be featured in it, I was a bit crushed.
